Senior Metallurgist
Location: Reykjavík, Iceland - Deadline March 31th 2021
Roles and Responsibilities
As a Senior Metallurgist, your primary role will be to:

Manage metallurgical lab and equipment
-
Coordinate lab efforts
-
Develop, review and implement lab operating procedures
-
Supervise and mentor assay lab crew and plant technicians assigned to the position;
-
Handle different type of pure metals and alloys
-
Investigate and examine the performance of pure metals and alloys
-
Carry out elemental analysis using sophisticated hardware analyzers and computer software
-
Assess the chemical composition of metals and alloys
-
Assess the physical structure and behavior of metals
-
Produce reports on research and tests carried out
-
Write documents, manuals, metallurgical investigations, and reports in support of customer liaison
-
Provide advice to internal and external stakeholders
-
Discuss different solutions to problems with other technical staff
-
Interpret customers' requirements and applications
-
Install and commission elemental analysis equipment
-
Become a thought leader in chemical composition analysis from liquid metals
-
Research and develop test or repair technology and new products.
Qualifications
Relevant degree subjects and knowledge which will help you to secure a position as a metallurgist include:
-
University degree in Metallurgical/Chemical Engineering from an accredited program
-
Ph.D. desirable
-
Understanding and experience in process control and continuous improvement would be an asset
-
Master smelting techniques and dynamics
-
Master alloying techniques and dynamics
-
Master chemical composition analysis
-
Have in-depth knowledge of Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy
-
Have in-depth knowledge of market available elemental analysis process and equipment
-
Knowledgeable of elemental analysis market standards

Work Experience
-
Relevant pre-entry experience, such as hands-on knowledge of practical techniques, is a must.
-
5-10 years' mining process plant operations experience in base or precious metals specializing in mineral processing; preferable, aluminum.
